Makoa Resorts (“we”, “us”) operates makoaresorts.com and the Makoa Resorts mobile app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it simple: we collect only what we need to host you well, and we never sell your personal information.
Information we collect
Booking & reservation details. When you book a stay or look up a reservation — on our website or in our app — we collect your name, email address, phone number, billing address, the details of your stay (dates, property, party size, and the occasion if you share it), and messages you send us. If you book through Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com or Expedia, that platform shares your booking details with us, and its own privacy policy also applies.
Payment information. Card payments are processed by our reservation platform’s PCI-compliant payment processor (Guesty Pay). Your card number is entered directly with the processor and is never stored on our servers or in the app.
Inquiries & quotes. If you send an inquiry (contact form, event or group inquiry), we receive the details you submit so our team can reply. Quote emails we send you contain tracked links and a small image that tell us whether the quote was opened, so we know when to follow up.
Newsletter. If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your name and email address and send them to Mailchimp, the service we use to email you. Our newsletters record opens and clicks. You can unsubscribe anytime with the link in any email.
Website usage. When you visit our website, we and the services listed below collect information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser, and your approximate location. Our mobile app contains no advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Our website uses:
- Essential cookies that keep the site and booking working and remember your cookie choice.
- Google Analytics, to understand how visitors find and use our site. It uses first-party cookies such as
_ga. - Google Analytics Advertising Features. We use Google signals and demographics and interests reporting. For visitors who are signed in to Google and have allowed ad personalization, Google can connect visits across devices and give us reports on things like age range and interests. These reports are aggregated and don’t identify you. We and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as Google advertising cookies) together for this reporting and to measure our marketing.
- Content from other services built into our pages: the video on our homepage (YouTube), our map (Google Maps), virtual tours (Tiller XR), our guest reviews (Trustindex), fonts (Google Fonts) and spam protection on our forms (Google reCAPTCHA). These services receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
This means Google and other third parties may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use our site. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Your cookie choices
- Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked before we use analytics or advertising cookies, and can change their choice anytime in Cookie settings.
- Everyone can turn off analytics and advertising cookies on our site in Cookie settings, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, manage Google ad personalization in Google Ads Settings, opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies through the NAI consumer opt-out, or block and delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Do Not Track. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common standard for how to respond to it, our site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. You can use the options above instead.
How we use your information
To process and manage your reservation; to communicate with you before, during and after your stay (including check-in instructions and door entry codes); to respond to inquiries; to understand and improve our website and marketing; to keep our site secure; to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations; and, if you opt in, to send occasional news and offers (you can unsubscribe anytime).
Sharing
We share reservation data with the service providers who make hosting you possible: our property-management platform (Guesty), its payment processor, and our email services (such as Zoho Mail and Mailchimp). These providers may only use your data to provide services to us. Website usage data is shared with Google as described under “Cookies and similar technologies.” We may also disclose information when the law requires it. We do not sell or rent personal information.
Data retention & security
Reservation records are retained as required for legal, tax and accounting purposes. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to guest information is limited to our team and providers who need it to serve you.
Your choices & rights
You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (subject to records we must keep by law). Email us at reservations@makoaresorts.com and we’ll take care of it. You can unsubscribe from our emails anytime with the link at the bottom of each email.
California residents
If you live in California, you can use the rights above to see, correct or delete your information. We do not sell your personal information. See “Cookies and similar technologies” and “Your cookie choices” for how third parties may collect information on our site and how we handle Do Not Track signals.
Visitors from Europe and the UK
We use your booking information to arrange and manage your stay (our contract with you) and to meet our legal obligations, we protect our site from spam and abuse (our legitimate interest), and we use analytics and advertising cookies only with your consent, which you can withdraw anytime in Cookie settings. You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or transfer your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing us, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We are based in Hawaii, so your information is processed in the United States by us and our service providers.
Children
Our website and app are intended for adults making travel arrangements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we update this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page with a new “last updated” date.
